My Crochet Kinky Twist Braid Experience!

Crochet Kinky Twist Braids

I want to talk to you about my Crochet Kinky Twist Braid Extensions! I absolutely loved them. I wore them for 4 weeks, which for me was a long time to be without my trademark style, of my Bantu Knots.

(Just an aside, those custom earrings I am wearing were made by the fabulous Toni Daley! Check out her site for more magical items, http://www.tonidaley.com)

It was a nice break to have a protective style in and I try to install protective styles when I know I have a very busy period coming up. They are fairly easy to do and your foundation, the cornrows, do not require perfection. You always want to aim to produce quality work though, even if you are the only one who is going to see it (that’s just me).

So for those who aren’t familiar with the Crochet Braid method, I will break it down for you. First the hair is cornrowed, and the foundation pattern will vary depending on the styling desired. Then the hair extensions are attached with a crochet hook into the cornrows and there you have it! Crochet Braids! The type of hair used will give you varying results. Many people use a brand called, Freetress, which is great and the hair lasts for a long time without looking messy. I would say most people wear the style for about 4-6 weeks. If you’re not sure what curl pattern to select from Freetress, I would suggest doing a search online to see which curl pattern you like the most. I used kinky textured hair, which gave me an afro look, which I later two-strand twisted into a short bob. I purchased the hair at Classic Beauty Supply, http://www.classicbeauty.ca/

I really do enjoy styling my hair, but I will enjoy having this look again as well. What I had enjoyed the most about this technique was that I didn’t have to cut my own hair to achieve a short look, and I didn’t have to colour my hair black for a temporary look. My hair is dyed a much lighter colour, so to go back would involve a colour correction. Don’t get me wrong–I loved the black hair and I must admit I have been dying my hair for the past nine years so it was odd seeing the black every day, but I loved it! Knowing that I can go back and forth with colour like this is a magical thing now!

I hope you enjoyed the video and learned a little something from it too! If you have any questions, don’t forget to write and tell me what’s on your mind and I will try to write about it here!
